Private Jet Paint Scheme Design
INDUSTRIAL INGENUITY BECOMING A WORK OF ART
Designed & Written by Valeria Lie Alonso
I’ve had the privilege of working on hundreds of aircraft liveries for corporate and private jets throughout my career since 2010, ranging from traditional minimalist styles to contemporary and audacious designs.
Since then, I’ve evolved as a designer, delved deep into my artistic intuition, and launched the Essaouira aircraft concept to develop a new approach towards Aviation design.
Creating the exterior signature of the Essaouira concept, our flagship aviation project, we demonstrate this evolution of design in a unique artistic approach, showcasing pure elegance, craftsmanship and fine detail.
Ultimately, the aircraft becomes a work of art in itself.
Here we explore three fundamental steps in our design process:
PART I: CONCEPT, FINE ART
HAND MADE DRAWINGS, ARTISTIC EXPLORATION
PART II: FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL
GRAPHIC DESIGN
PART III: FROM IMAGINATION TO VISUALIZATION
3D VISUALIZATION
PART I: CONCEPT, FINE ART
HAND MADE DRAWINGS, ARTISTIC EXPLORATION
With high regard to tradition and an artistic background, our approach begins with hand made drawings. In this instance, inspiration was drawn from Morocco (read more about what sparked the project into life here), the intention was to bring the exotic influences to the exterior as a way to represent the sophistication and detail of the interior.
Representing Lie Alonso’s signature style:
Organic artworks featuring hand drawn laurels with artistic calligraphy influence and naturally crafted movement.
With careful consideration of the aircraft aerodynamics and proportions, the design flows gently and respectfully through the aircraft’s fuselage all the way up to its vertical stabilizer, seamlessly.
PART II: FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL
GRAPHIC DESIGN
An essential part of the process consists in pure graphic design, developed digitally using a graphics editor software such as Adobe Illustrator. It’s a process of visual communication in two dimensional views. This is where the line work is drawn as vector artwork –– built from vector graphics, which are images created with mathematical formulas, allowing us to work with high precision. The drawing is then converted into a CAD technical file with precise dimensions to support the aircraft painting process.
PART III: FROM IMAGINATION TO VISUALIZATION
3D VISUALIZATION
After all the steps and decisions made throughout the creative process, it’s time to render and visualize what the aircraft will look like once it’s been painted, finished, and ready for take off; even before it has done so.
Here is where we apply the design to a 3D model and rendering software such as Autodesk 3ds Max or Blender, and work our magic by creating beautiful perspective images.
With realistic views, we are able to make a reliable decision on the design.
Now that we are able to see what the aircraft will look like and make the exciting decision on our paint scheme design, it is time to take this bird to the paint shop, and then onto a journey around the world.
For those who appreciate art, elegance, and subtlety in the details. For those who seek to demonstrate a deep level of appreciation, passion and purpose. The intention here is to create beauty, without taking a moment for granted, acknowledging the privilege and enthusiasm towards these flying birds created by human ingenuity.
